Seeking Director of Data and Analytics for Investment Bank Startup-NY

Navon Partners, a startup investment bank in New York, is seeking a few superstars to join us as cofounders/early team members. We help private equity funds to source investments in private companies. We have a unique business model, a combination of data mining, investment banking, private equity, and investment research. We are currently self-funded and have revenue from a blue-chip client list (http://navonpartners.com/clients ).

We are building an automated research and analysis engine focused on private companies. Our technology is somewhat similar to that developed by such firms as Connotate, FirstRain, InfoNgen, and SkyGrid; we particularly value experience from these and similar companies. COMPENSATION

+ Modest cash plus cofounder equity. We expect to raise outside capital in early 2011.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Manage ongoing relationship with technology team
+ Evaluate 3rd-party data providers (Alacra, OneSource, D&B, Capital IQ, LinkedIn, etc.) based on cost, data quantity/quality, data cleanliness, etc.; purchase data from them
+ Evaluate and select a statistical language for conducting analyses.
+ Run regressions, classifications, or rankings to identify most meaningful data signals.
+ Possibly: negotiate data-sharing deals with outside data partners.
+ Identify quantitative factors which indicate a company is an attractive investment
+ Recruit and manage additional team members. May be off-shore, part-time or full-time.
+ Work closely with top management regarding budgets and major strategic/tactical decisions
+ Manage full product lifecycle including infrastructure, development, design, scalability and security.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
+ Passion about our startup's vision.
+ Over 3 years pertinent experience.
+ Strong analytical and math skills. High attention to detail. Unusually creative. Likes orthogonal solutions.
+ Broad understanding of basic statistical tests, regression, classification, clustering, and techniques for dealing with incomplete data
+ Highly motivated self-starter who has a track record of continuous self-improvement, high achievement, and aggressiveness.
+ Have managed analysis teams over time, preferably with hiring and firing responsibilities.

We also value:
+ Familiar with semantic web, and/or agent-based systems.
+ Experience in social networks, online dating, and/or finance industry, particularly investment banking and private equity.
+ Belief in the Edward Tufte school of communication.
+ Strong writing experience. Value a high GPA in writing-dependent courses.
+ Experience in startup environment
