"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime."
Most investment bankers are in the business of selling individual companies, or "fish". We are happy to help our clients source individual transactions, but we think our greatest value to clients is working with them to build the optimal deal origination processes - the "fishnet" - to catch many companies.
Our process:
- Analyze your existing deal origination processes. We ask from you basic background information, including your communications with investors; feedback you have received from limited partners about your origination processes; your organization chart; and an analysis of your historical and current pipeline.
- Interview team members.
- Benchmark against your competition.
- Analyze your options for upgrading origination, typically in a 2-3 hour workshop, using an expanded and customized version of the content posted on our site.
Based on this analysis, we work together to determine what changes if any are optimal for your firm, and then execute those changes. Among the many initiatives possible are:
- Build an automated deal signal tracking system, to identify companies that are a likely fit for your strategy.
- Identify and solicit new relationships with investment bankers and other intermediaries/industry players who can be referral sources. Identify which investment banks you should have relationships with, but do not. Analyze your investment banking coverage ratio: which deals you saw, vs. which deals were executed nationally that you would have been interested in but never saw.
- Identify and solicit optimal co-investors.
- Launch social media marketing strategy. Redesign website, designate firm bloggers, train, and tie social media into CRM system.
- Launch a senior advisor network, including executives who can source and lead transactions for you.
- Promote firm principals as public speakers at industry conferences , particularly to audiences and communities where we have access.
